Profile
With its fake palm trees, wild wallpaper, and mirrored balls, Plan B recalls the legendary 1930s nightclub El Morocco in miniature but you won’t find high society lounging on the zebra-skin banquettes. The former Drinkland, which now resembles Austin Powers’s dream boite, provides an egalitarian, stripped-down version of the club experience. Although it’s popular with groups because of its two quieter, semi-private nooks (a modish mid-sized “white room” in front and a somewhat claustrophobic “red room” that features an illuminated fish tank and floor tiles) the NYU kids and their collegiate counterparts from NJ don’t come here to talk. The music, ranging from live salsa on Wednesdays to world beat to hip hop to rock, is thumpin’ loud. Anyone sitting on the bench along the main room’s perimeter is primarily eyeing potential conquests on the tiny dance floor.
Live SalsaWednesday at 9:30 p.m.; $6 mojitos, $5 cover charge.
Bar Food
Plan B serves Italian appetizers from Gnocco next door.
