Directly across from the Soho Grand Hotel, SOHO:323's bi-level bar and lounge attracts chic, skin-baring model-types toting Blackberries and Burberry bags (occasionally filled with a mini pooch or two). The Feng Shui-influenced first floor bar emanates upscale casual: The exposed brick walls are white-washed, windows reach from floor to ceiling, and the L-shaped bar, topped by grey stone, is cool to the touch. Dark wood accents punctuated by a plethora of both real and painted palms add to the zen. In the low-lit backroom, banquettes, ottomans and small chunky wood tables provide comfort for close conversation, as do the exotic concoctions. The Bel-Lychee is a sweet, delicate infusion of Stoli Vanil Vodka, Lychee juice and peach nectar, and the Bellini Martini adds Stoli Oranj vodka to the standard Bellini for a crisp, smooth kick. They can be enjoyed with Shumai or edamame, along with a plethora of specialty sushi rolls. On late weekend nights, the less-polished upstairs lounge opens (complete with rough wooden ceiling beams, exposed brick and comfy cabanas) and partiers pay cover to groove to hip hop and soulful house.

Extra

The mostly hip-hop and soulful house groovin' parties heat up late nights Thursday-Saturday, when the bouncers and the $15 covers come out and the large, less-polished upstairs lounge opens (complete with rough wooden ceiling beams, exposed brick and comfy cabanas).

Mark Ronson was off the hook last night at the benefit party. Soho 323 did a good job with getting dope dj's for a worthwhile cause.
