After winning a tense bidding war, Blue Note will release the first non-amateur full-length recording of the Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane (a collaboration that lasted just six months), captured at a 1957 benefit concert at Carnegie Hall; the recording was unearthed by a jazz aficionado at the Library of Congress in January. . . . While the Reverend Run preps for
his concurrent solo-album and MTV-reality-show debut, his former label will reissue three of Run-D.M.C.’s first four studio albums, including bonus tracks such as the original demo for “Walk This Way” and an a cappella version of “My Adidas.” . . . The Amazing Screw-On Head, an absurdist animated series developed for the Sci Fi Channel, will feature the voice of Paul Giamatti as a Civil War–era secret agent for Abraham Lincoln who can screw his head onto many different bodies. . . . Nathan Lane will star in Terrence McNally’s Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams. Lane will start performances on July 26 and finish September 4, two days before starting rehearsals with Matthew Broderick for the October revival of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple.
