Profile
Founders Trafton Cole and Eddie Haan would probably be surprised that their 1920s classic men's footwear label has morphed into a trendy footwear retailer (now owned by Nike) favored by legions of stylish women, offered in shops where rock music underscores the refined world of Cole-Haan shoes, handbags and outerwear. Many styles emphasize walkability, thanks to the company's signature soft leathers and air-tech cushioning, a carry-over from their corporate parent. Zippy colors and lively patterns save the women's line from the comfort-equals-boredom pitfall; shoes for men run from conservative, well-crafted oxfords to the racier snakeskin line, in sizes up to 15. New collections arrive three times a year—spring, winter and cruisewear. Even the rain gear, like coats and umbrellas, have a dash of style and humor.
