Flores Antique Clothing
529 Grand St., nr. Lorimer St., Williamsburg 718-387-3369
Secondhand-clothing shops have become as status-conscious and price-inflated as the first-run boutiques they once challenged ($125 for an eighties cotton sundress?). At Flores Antique Clothing, a scruffy Williamsburg shop, you won’t find impeccably hip salesgirls or luxurious dressing rooms. You will find dresses. Lots of them. For cheap. Owner Mauricio Flores has packed a lifetime’s worth of frocks into his tiny shop; most are less than $50. Recently seen: a dove-gray pointelle sweaterdress for $25; a new H&M dress is more than that. For warm weather, the shop has everything from floral chiffon tea dresses to airy earth-mother embroidered frocks to preppy sailor-chic numbers. It’s nearly impossible to come here without finding one (or two, or six) dresses you don’t know how you ever lived without. There’s a bulk-buy discount, so you’ll have a week’s worth of dresses for what you might have paid for one piece at Edith Machinist.
